what previous customers have said

Just to say thank you for providing such wonderful catering for our wedding on 21 March. You really went above and beyond to provide us with gluten-free options, your staff couldn't do enough for us, and everyone commented on how wonderful the food was - even the confirmed carnivores. We wouldn't hesitate to use you again, or to recommend you to others. Thank you again.' ~ Eleanor & Eddie (Cleethorpes), 2009

I'd just like to thank you for Kathryn and Tom's wedding buffet. The food was lovely ... also pass on our thanks to the staff, who were extremely friendly and efficient! ~ Ian & Janet (Sheffield), 2009

'As my husband and I are both vegetarian we were keen to find a caterer who could make a suitably special vegetarian meal which our meat eating guests would still enjoy. Seasame did a brilliant job, the food was excellent, and even those guests most cynical about the idea of a veggie wedding enjoyed it. Kim, who runs Seasame, is professional, trustworthy and will go out of her way to make sure everything is just how you want it. She was an absolute blessing. Very very highly recommended.' ~ Abigail & Ian (York), 2008

'Thank you so much for being so good to work with and making and serving such wonderful food! You played a big part in making our wedding day so special.' ~ Katy & Graham (Leeds), 2008

'Thank you for helping to make our baby's Naming Day a memorable occasion. The food and service was excellent, and well received by everyone. We will hopefully find an opportunity to work with you again in the future.' ~ Nicola & Craig (Derby), 2007

'Sesame provided the food for our baby's Thanksgiving party. It looked so beautiful, and everyone commented on how delicious it all was. And it's great that sesame is a business with fairtrade at its heart.' ~ Yo (Sheffield), 2007

at sesame, we believe that business can and should be ethical.

organic certification logo

We use organic ingredients where possible. Our main supplier is local shop Beanies Wholefoods, who specialise in organic UK fruit and vegetables. Beanies are approved organic by the Soil Association.

We use local suppliers to minimise food miles, support small businesses, and, since some of our suppliers are within walking distance, reduce our own carbon emissions. These suppliers include:

We promote fair trade products, and use them in our cooking where possible. We also offer fair trade juices as part of our drinks service. We give a fair deal to our staff; offering a profit related pay scheme, paying above the minimum wage, and providing training and support.

We prepare only vegetarian and vegan food, with systems in place to ensure no cross contamination between the two. Where we do use dairy products, we are careful to consider animal welfare standards by using only organic and free range eggs and milk. Vegetarianism isn't only a matter of animal welfare, but is the best diet for the planet in general: see, for example, this paper which assesses the reduced environmental impact of a vegetarian diet. (And a high profile statement to the same effect by Climate Chief Lord Stern.)

We endeavour to put any left over food to good use, working with local charities to that effect. (We are always pleased to receive new offers of interest from Sheffield-based charities who might be able to use sandwiches, fruit and other food: do get in touch.)

We reuse and recycle, serving our food with proper crockery and glassware to discourage the use of disposable products. We recycle extensively (including all glass, paper, metals, and many plastics), and compost where possible. We use 'bio uk fuels' (a company that guarantees the use of 100% recycled oil for their biodiesel) for sesame vehicles. We also use Ecover products for all our cleaning to reduce our environmental impact.

Our menus are based around seasonally available British produce. Eating seasonally reduces the air miles needed to import food, and in any case makes our diet more varied and interesting! Where we do use non-British produce, we always ensure that such produce has not been transported by air.

sesame is a small business set up in 2005 by Kim Langford, who, as a long time vegetarian and chef, felt there was a need for quality vegetarian and vegan options in the Sheffield area. As sesame grew, Kim was joined in the business by her husband Mark Day, an event manager.

sesame is based in Sharrow, Sheffield where Kim and Mark have lived since 1998 with son Rafael and their big white cat Miles, who remains something of a local celebrity.

sesame's trading address is 103 Club Garden Road, Sheffield, S11 8BW.
